  2. Louis Le Prince
    • According to 3 sources
Louis Le Prince is credited with creating the world’s first motion picture in the late 1880s. He used a single-lens camera to capture moving images onto paper film. Le Prince’s experiments culminated in a short film known as “Roundhay Garden Scene,” filmed in the garden of his father-in-law’s house in Roundhay, Leeds, England, in 1888.
However, experts have largely agreed that Roundhay Garden Scene was probably the first movie in history. Filmed in October 1888 by Louis Le Prince using a single-lens camera he’d invented, Roundhay Garden Scene is just 2.11 seconds long and features four people walking in a circle outside of a home in Leeds, England.
French artist and inventor Louis Le Prince did more to develop movies than almost anybody in the history of film. The only reason most people haven’t heard his name is because he mysteriously disappeared before showing his movies to the masses. In 1888, Le Prince produced a few short films (the first of their kind).
