UTF-8 has an advantage in the case where ASCII characters represent the majority of characters in a block of text, because UTF-8 encodes these into 8 bits (like ASCII). It is also advantageous in that a UTF-8 file containing only ASCII characters has the same encoding as an ASCII file.

UTF-16 is better where ASCII is not predominant, since it uses 2 bytes per character, primarily. UTF-8 will start to use 3 or more bytes for the higher order characters where UTF-16 remains at just 2 bytes for most characters.

    UTF-32 - Wikipedia

UTF-32 (32-bit Unicode Transformation Format) is a fixed-length encoding used to encode Unicode code points that uses exactly 32 bits (four bytes) per code point (but a number of leading bits must be zero as there are far fewer than 2 Unicode code points, needing actually only 21 bits). What is UTF 32 encoding?UTF-32 is a fixed-length encoding, in contrast to all other Unicode transformation formats, which are variable-length encodings. Each 32-bit value in UTF-32 represents one Unicode code point and is exactly equal to that code point's numerical value. The main advantage of UTF-32 is that the Unicode code points are directly indexed.

Can Unicode characters be encoded using UTF-8?But, in principle, UTF-8 is only one of the possible ways of encoding Unicode characters. In other words, a single code point in the Unicode character set can actually be mapped to different byte sequences, depending on which encoding was used for the document.
What is the difference between UTF-16 and UTF-32 encodings?UTF-16 and sometimes UTF-8 or UTF-32. This is mostly for historical reasons; there is little difference between the three Unicode encodings: all three are well-defined, fast and robust, and all of them can encode every Unicode code point sequence.
How do I get a UTF32 encoding?Enter your text in the editor at the top. You will automatically get UTF32 bytes at the bottom. UTF-32 is a Unicode encoding in which each character is made up of four bytes. Unicode was created as a 16-bit encoding to represent all current scripts.
