Jan 15, 2021 · Oda is way better in designing women ad LGBT people than the average shounen mangaka. One Piece's women have goals, dreams and do not exist entirely as a plot device for their male companions. If we compare One Piece to mangas like Bleach and Naruto the difference is abyssal. Same goes for the LGBT characters.

Now, One Piece is big in Japan, and someone like Zoro would be a character that already has a strong, manly image built up through his actions throughout the series. (That is, the personality-wise expectations placed on men, regardless of sexual preference.)

The only strawhats that show any hint of sexuality are Sanji and Brook as part of their gags, purely for comedy reasons above anything else. Nami, Robin, Zoro, Franky, Jinbe, these people just don't have a hint of sexuality towards man, woman, fishman, mermaid, giant, whatever you want to put in front of them.
