This is my first writings on my post reversal. I am two weeks post reversed colostomy. I had originally had the colostomy on 4-16-2018 due to emergency room trip with ruptured diverticulitis and abscess. I healed quickly and had no issues.

I had a lot of trauma in the accident and had a broken femur and hip, neurologic issues and a lot of other problems. After 7 months in the hospital I came home. Apr 10, 2009 · I always took "reverse ileostomy" to mean a reversal of the original operation, which was simply to divert the small bowel away from the colon. A "reversal" therefore refers to (essentially) reconnecting the small bowel to the colon--not anything that happens after that. As you suggest, you can't get back what you've lost.

The colostomy gave me a life back and irrigating each night has added QUALITY, especially freedom of movement to ride my roadbike, travel again, be away from a bathroom, and not have to even think about poop for over 24 hours.

May 30, 2023 · I was told it was due to a fistula in my lower intestines leaking into surrounding tissue, and I eventually had a colostomy in 2015, to bypass the area and let the fistula close. Didn't solve the problem. So in 2018, I had another surgery; they were going to reverse the ostomy, fix the fistula, and remove the affected tissue.

Aug 16, 2019 · We've just taken in our elderly mother in-law, 78, who has Alzheimer and uses a Colostomy bag. This is all new to me so any guidance will be greatly appreciated. She had a Colostomy about 3 years ago. It was supposed to be temporary. Other family members who have taken her to the doctor said the doctor said it's too risky to reverse it.
