    Hassan Rouhani (born November 12, 1948, Sorkheh, Iran) is a centrist Iranian politician and cleric who served as president of Iran (2013–21) and is known for his role in negotiating the 2015 nuclear agreement, called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), that limited Iran’s nuclear program.
    Reformist-backed cleric Hassan Rouhani has won Iran's presidential election, securing just over 50% of the vote and so avoiding the need for a run-off. Crowds gathered in Tehran to hail Mr Rouhani, who said he had achieved a "victory of moderation over extremism".
