    A geographic coordinate system (GCS) is a spherical or geodetic coordinate system for measuring and communicating positions directly on Earth as latitude and longitude. It is the simplest, oldest and most widely used of the various spatial reference systems that are in use, and forms the basis for most others.
    A Geographic Coordinate System (GCS) specifies a datum, spheroid, and prime meridian. A GCS uses coordinates in angular units (e.g. degrees or grads) and is better imagined as a globe than as a flat map. A Projected Coordinate System (PCS) is the result of applying a map projection to data in a GCS to create a flat map.
