A heel spur or calluses is a calcium deposition under the heel, which looks and feels like a bony projection. Treatment for this includes taking over-the-counter pain-relieving medications like acetaminophen, nimesulide, or aceclofenac. Other modes of treatment are applying an ice pack daily 3 to 4 times. Warm compresses or soaking calluses in warm water helps in their softening. Using soft footwear, stretching exercises of the foot, orthotic devices, application of a corn cap, and physiotherapy are the other treatment modalities. If the symptoms and pain persist, then surgical removal of the spur or calluses must be done.
